Reid Center LIVE! proudly presents a series of free concerts on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 12:00 noon, through May.

On February 1st, organist Frederick Chatfield will be joined by soprano Courtney Cummings to lift your spirits in the middle of winter.

Frederick Chatfield

Frederick Chatfield, served as Director of Music and Organist of Christ United Methodist Church in Kettering, Ohio, a position he held for thirty years (1986-2016).  His prior appointments as Director of Music/Organist  were at First United Church of Christ, Milford, Connecticut (1977-1986) and Newton Presbyterian Church, Newton, Massachusetts (1972-1977). Fred holds a Bachelor of Music in Organ from New England Conservatory in Boston and a Master of Arts in Religion (Music and Worship) cum laude from Yale University where he was named the 1985 Hugh Porter Scholar.  His principle organ teachers have included Frank Mulheron, Charles Krigbaum, Miréille Lagacé and Thomas Murray.  In addition to his work at Christ Church, Kettering, Fred has performed with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Dayton Opera and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra.  He has served as Conference Choir Director and as Conference Organist for the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church.  Mr. Chatfield was a faculty member of the Organ Academy of the American Guild of Organists, Dayton chapter and is a published composer. Fred is married to Martha Chatfield and has two grown children, Colin and Christina.  Among his great enjoyments are Annie - a beautiful border collie/aussie mix, and his 1982 BMW R100RS motorcycle which he restored in the spring of 2006.  In retirement, Fred and Martha have moved to Richmond, Indiana.

Courtney Cummings

Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Courtney Cummings has served as the Music Director for Temple Israel since 2013 and is a proud member of the Guild of Temple Musicians.  She graduated from Kenyon College with a B.A.  Minusic and holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance & Literature from the Eastman School of Music.  On stage, she has appeared as a featured soloist with the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra, Dayton Playhouse, Knox County Symphony, and the Young Professionals’ Choral Collective.  In her spare time, Ms. Cummings performs in Dayton and Cincinnati in both the sacred and secular communities and spends quality time with her husband and young son.

All events last 45-50 minutes and are open to the public. Admission is free.

Parking: On-street parking is available along North A, 10th St, and 11th St. There is a lot north of the church accessible from the alley between 10th and 11th Streets.The municipal parking lot on 10th St. between Main and North A is a short walk.

Accessibility: The historic church presents a number of accessibility challenges. The south entrance (along North A Street) has an accessible ramp to the door. Once inside, there is a stairway of about 8 steps to the main level. On the left is a handrail, and on the right is a lift chair. The only restroom on the main level is not wheelchair accessible.
